Stoney Ridge Estate - Wine Tour, Barrel Tasting & Lunch

Picture

I have arranged to have a tour for 20 people at Stoney Ridge.  We will have a tour starting at 3:00pm where we are more than welcome to take pictures, and after the tour lunch!

This guided tour offers an intimate walk through our award-winning gardens as well as an engaging insiders look at the wine making process.  Your visit will take you to the vineyards to learn about the growing cycle and into our production facilities to take a closer look at the pressing, fermentation and bottling processes. Then join our Sommelier in the Barrel Room for a tasting of wines right from the barrel!

The 20 dollars will cover the meal. Tip and drinks are extra.

Lets get a carpool going if you can drive. If you need a ride, please contact drivers directly.

Old Western Town Photoshoot  ...  Yippie Yi-ay - Let's do it AGAIN! ... Saturday, June 4, 2011

Picture

Howdy Pardners!!  Let's do it AGAIN!  The third annual 'get country' for a day event!

You can arrive at ANY time you want after 1:00 pm and STAY for as long as you want! We are welcome to stay for sunset, which most people missed last year, and it was awesome!

This is an exciting and absolutely amazing place to shoot pictures, our best meetup (I think) last year! You can smell and feel the Old West as you drive around the bend on this property to see this amazing replica of an old Western Town. The grounds are rich with old buildings, textures, props and even an old piano that will make your heart skip a beat! This unique town has endless photographic possibilities!! You won't find any prop "cut-out" store fronts, you can walk into each building and there are endless shots from endless angles. Pretty good chance we will have some folks stopping by on their horses also, which adds another dimension to the shoot.

The “Old West” town makes you feel like you stepped back in time!

This meetup will happen on a private property, and we will be the only group in the 'Town'. I will send out the exact location a few days before the event to those who will be attending. It is in the Pickering/Uxbridge area.

Since this could be a long day - feel free to bring a lawn chair, blanket and something to eat as well as drink. Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be sold there. Don't forget to bring along your cowboy hat and boots - this year there will be prizes for the best dressed Cowboy/Cowgirl photographer!!! I'm working on getting a few models dressed in Western Wear to attend, as it has been a big hit in past years.

The town lights will be turned on at dusk, and that makes for some fantastic shots as well.

Now for the weather ... please check back on the meetup site the day of the shoot. I'm not anticipating rain! :)  I have secured a rain-date of June 25th and hope we will not need it!

Look back on the photo site of our meetup page if you want to get a feel for the event and pictures from last time. Just imagine the possibilities!

Charge your batteries, if you have one, bring your tripod, and any camera you have - we are not camera snobs in this group!  :)  Actually I've seen some pretty good pictures from disposable cameras from this event!

Look forward to seeing you there!

Designing a Striking Image

Picture

Good photography is something personal and deeply satisfying, and an art where constant learning and exploration leads to better results. Training your eye to 'see' and 'portray' the essence and spirit of what you are experiencing is truly powerful.

Have you ever wondered why you have been out taking pictures with our group, and when you view some of their best shots, you can' believe you did not 'see' some of the things that others have captured, and wondered why their photo are (sometimes) more striking than yours? Have you ever gone back to the photo gallery and reviewed one photo over and over, as it caught your attention, made you wonder about the story behind it, or it created emotion in you?

Sometimes it is a lucky shot, and much of the time, it is someone that has been purposeful setting up the picture using the time tested 'rules' of composition.

In this session you will learn the 'rules' of line, shape, form, texture, pattern, colour, scale, composition, lighting, frame filling, and background, so that you amaze yourself, and others with your photographs!

Carly is the session leader.  She studied photography at Humber College, won 3 awards for her photography, one of them being the Schoolastic Award, where her picture won her a gold key (top rated of 1,200 photographs).  She also won an award in the Congressional Art Competition, and is a natural photographer with a 'good eye'.

Bring your camera - ANY camera is welcome - as we will be doing some shooting to incorporate the learning while it is fresh in your mind.  If the weather is good we will venture outdoors.

The session goes from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Tips on Taking Pictures of People and a Photoshoot with Bobby

Picture

Bobby our instructor and model for the event, has been voted #3 in the WORLD on the fashion site www.lookbook.nu.  Currently he is attending Humber College to pursue his passion.  He is becoming quite recognized in the modeling world, is very knowledgeable and is fun to work with.

Bobby will start the session by discussing how to best photograph a model, or anyone you wish to take impressive pictures of!  Learn different poses, great angles for unique pictures, capturing emotion, the best kind of smiles, where to have your subject look, and how to assess their best features so you know what to focus on.  This information will strengthen your ability to work with models, family members and friends, to get the best pictures that show the person as relaxed and natural.

Following the session, Bobby will model so you can take pictures and see the differences in poses, facial expressions and lighting.

The session will go from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Cost is $40. If the weather is good, we will venture outside and do some outdoor shooting as well as in the studio.

This story is about a girl named Coppelia that sits on her balcony all day reading. She has never smiled or talked to anyone. The friendliest girl in the village, Swalinda, can’t even catch her attention. One day Franz was throwing his kisses up at Coppelia trying for a response. Swanilda skips in, looking for Franz, as he is her boyfriend. She sees Franz blowing kisses at Coppelia, and gets annoyed. They were to be married the next day, but as the burgomaster comes around asking if she will be wed, she says no, and runs away in tears. That night Coppelia’s father Dr. Coppeius, takes a stroll in the park, He drops his house key, not noticing that it’s gone. Swanilda finds the key, planning to sneak into Coppelia sitting in her usual chair reading her usual book. Swanilda said hello, and started cracking up! "She’s a doll", Swalinda cries.

Dr. Coppelius saw them, and shooed her away. Swalinda couldn’t except, and hid behind Coppelia. Franz then sneaks into the house, and the doctor finds him. Franz says he wants to marry his daughter. The doctor smiles and takes Franz for a drink. The doctor adds a magic potion to the drink, causing Franz to fall asleep. The doctor then gets to work. He tried to bring Coppelia alive. Swalinda had dressed as Coppelia, and pretended to come alive. The doctor found out though, and was horribly sad as Franz and Swalinda fled from the house. The next day everyone went to the gathering, including Franz, Swanilda, and the doctor. The doctor demands a fee for the damage done to Coppelia. Swanilda gladly pays and she and Franz marry.

If you need a ride, or can give a ride, please post it. Look forward to seeing you there.

Splash Photography

*S*P*L*A*S*H* photography or Water Droplet photography is LOTS of FUN.  Once you understand the basics, you can get as complicated as you want.  There are three tricks to making beautiful splash photographs…..light placement, timing and flash duration.

First we will start with a demonstration on how to achieve the best pictures, and then you will have plenty of time to practice with a variety of objects being dropped into many coloured liquids.  Just imagine the combinations…there will be plenty to play with…….

Join Stephen and I whenever you can make it, supper is included (chili or soup and dessert) so you can come straight from work if you need to!

You will only need your camera – and if you have this equipment, please bring it along: flash, shutter release, and tripod. If you only have a camera, then bring that and you can use the studio equipment…..come prepared to get some *A*M*A*Z*I*N*G* shots.
